MADF is a county jail, not a state prison. Confirm a MADF Release
The Sheriff's online jail tool is useful, but its scope is narrow. The Incarcerated Person Search landing page states that the search covers people booked into Sonoma County Jail who are in custody at the time of the search. If a person appears there, treat the result as current-custody information unless the system is stale. If a person does not appear, do not treat the absence alone as proof of release. Spelling, booking number errors, data delays, restricted records, transfer, or a different custody agency can explain the gap.

Ask for records showing the date, time, and reason or type of release from Sonoma County Sheriff's custody. Include "Main Adult Detention Facility" when known, but do not rely on facility name alone. About MADF Custody
Main Adult Detention Facility opened in 1991. The Sheriff's research material describes it as a direct-supervision jail, meaning custody staff work in closer contact with custody units than in older linear jail designs. The facility was expanded in 1997, and the Sheriff's page reported a 2018 total capacity of 1,473 inmates. Those figures help explain why MADF is the primary Sonoma County release-record source, but they do not create a public release list by themselves.
MADF houses medium and maximum security custody, including pretrial and sentenced people. A pretrial release usually points back to the court case. After MADF Release

A person can leave MADF because bail changed, charges were dismissed, a sentence was imposed, credits were awarded, probation was ordered, or a transfer order issued. Online court data helps identify the case, while clerk records and copies provide more formal proof.
State-prison transfers move out of the county-jail lane. Use CDCR CIRIS when the person was sentenced to state prison or is under CDCR custody. Use BOP only for federal custody and ICE ODLS only for current immigration detention. Sonoma's local immigration page says immigration officials are not allowed in the jail except to make an arrest, the Sheriff's Office does not honor immigration holds, and it acts only on warrants issued by a judge. That local rule is a key reason to verify the receiving system instead of assuming an ICE transfer.
