The North County Detention Facility is a Sonoma County Sheriff's detention facility, so release confirmation follows the county jail route. The Sheriff facilities page places NCDF five miles north of Santa Rosa, adjacent to the Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport. It is not a state prison, federal prison, or ICE facility. Its history and program role are different from MADF, but the public release record still belongs to the Sheriff's Office when the person leaves Sheriff custody.
NCDF is more closely tied to lower-security custody, work details, and programs than the main medium and maximum facility. A release from NCDF may mean the person completed a local jail sentence, moved to court-ordered supervision, returned to the community, or moved to another Sonoma County custody point before final release. A person also may have a court date, probation term, PRCS supervision, warrant matter, or transfer record after the jail stay ends.

Confirm an NCDF Release
The Sheriff's public custody search does not operate as a recent-release archive. The Incarcerated Person Search is framed around people in custody at the time of the search. That matters for NCDF because a person may move through a program, work detail, or lower-security custody setting and then leave the current search when the Sheriff's custody event ends. Absence from the search is a clue, not proof.

A good NCDF release-record request should name the facility if known, but it should also give the full name, date of birth if known, booking number, arresting agency, approximate booking date, and requested date range. Ask for the record showing the date, time, and reason or type of release from Sonoma County Sheriff's custody.
North County Facility History
NCDF has a local history that makes it distinct from the main jail. The Sheriff's facility history says the site was part of the Santa Rosa Army Airfield during World War II. It later became an honor farm site for 35 minimum-security inmates in 1967. The facility grew to a rated capacity of 559 inmates before 172 inmates were moved to the MADF expansion in April 1997. Those facts explain why NCDF often appears in research as a lower-security, work-detail, and program-centered facility.
History should not be confused with release proof. An old program reference, work-detail note, or NCDF location clue can help identify where the person was held, but only the Sheriff's release record, the court file, VINE, probation records, or a receiving agency can verify the release path.
NCDF Work Detail Context
NCDF's program identity shows up in the Sheriff's materials through laundries, commissary and food services, groundskeeping, CalTrans, road and dump crews, airport and fairgrounds work, supervised adult crew, and agriculture. Inmate programs are coordinated by the Programs Sergeant. The research also notes classification limits: work-crew eligibility is tied to booking classification and excludes violent charges, escape histories, and disciplinary behavior problems.

NCDF Release Record Fields

When the person had program or work-detail custody, ask for the jail release event rather than a broad history of every program activity.

After NCDF Release
The court case is often the most durable local record after a person leaves NCDF. Use the Sonoma Superior Court Case Portal to identify the case, then use the criminal clerk or records department when copies are needed. Court records can show sentence credits, probation terms, dismissal, future hearings, or the order that moved the person out of jail custody.
For supervision, Sonoma County Probation is relevant when the person was released to probation, mandatory supervision, PRCS, work release, or another local court-ordered program. CDCR is relevant for state-prison commitments or parole. Federal and immigration systems apply only when the Sonoma jail release was a transfer. Sonoma's immigration information page adds an important local caveat: the Sheriff's Office says it does not honor immigration holds and acts only on warrants issued by a judge. That means a missing jail-search result should not be read as proof of ICE custody.
Note: A North County release should be verified through the record trail, not through assumptions about the facility's program history.
